Crown / Samducksa CWL-309FJ-DX ST35 — Clear White

The 309 is the most popular lever in Samducksa’s Crown line-up and a common sight in South Korean arcades. It was co-designed with long-time Korean player Help Me and built with Tekken in mind, balancing the best of Crown’s earlier 303 and 307 levers into one lever.

The FJ version drops the collar completely and uses a Japanese-style mounting plate. That makes it the easiest 309 to drop into a fightstick that was built for a Sanwa JLF, with no extra clearance needed above the plate.

What the model code means

• F: no collar, for cases with little room between the plate and the top panel.
• J: Japanese-style mounting plate with holes that line up with most Sanwa JLF mounts.
• DX: “deluxe” build, with Samducksa’s acetal DX bobbin and a DX shaft with a removable clear bat top.
• ST35: 35-tension silicone grommet instead of a spring.
• Plus: Samducksa’s machined acetal bobbin inside the tension grommet, for a more precise feel.

How it feels

Instead of a spring, the shaft sits in a silicone grommet. It gives an elastic, springy feel with a little damping and a very quick return to neutral, which is what makes Korean levers so popular for Tekken movement such as wavedashing and backdashing. Motion is smooth and cornerless for quarter-circles, half-circles and 360s. Only the ST35 grommet comes fitted. Samducksa also makes 25 and 45 tension grommets, sold separately, if you want to adjust the feel later.

• Korean levers use .187 inch tab switches. If your stick’s PCB uses a Sanwa-style 5-pin lever plug, you will need a 5-pin to 8-pin harness (sold separately).
